Tasmanian Winter Tours - Ben Lomond
Departing from Launceston, we travel via Blessington Rd through some of Tasmania's beautiful farming land to Ben Lomond National Park, to get to the Alpine Village we travel up the steep winding road, known as Jacobs Ladder. Dolerite rock dominates the 1500m high plateau, during recent ice ages, a small ice-cap existed on Ben Lomond and the resulting glaciation accounts for the distinctive alpine scenery. Once at Ben Lomond Alpine Village, you may hire or bring your own skis or toboggin and spend the day skiing or taking some of the many walks.
The National Park plays an invaluable role in the regions flora and fauna conservation. There are over 200 different plant species and you will find Bennett's Wallabies, and Wombats. Some species such as the Tasmanian Devils have declined since the 1990's. Quolls, Echidnas and Platypus are also found in the area.
If you would like to spend the day skiing, you are able to hire all the equipment needed for a fantastic day, we will depart Ben Lomond at 3 pm for Launceston. Lunch is available at the Alpine cafe. Weather conditions may require earlier departures.
If you would prefer to spend the day in a more leisurely way, then you can take in the magnificent views, build a snow man, and if your after that perfect photo, there are plenty of opportunities. For those not skiing, we will leave Ben Lomond and travel to Evandale, where we stop for lunch at the Historic Clarendon Arms Hotel and a stroll around the beautiful shops, then a short drive towards Launceston, we will stop at Josef Chromy Wines, and sample some of Tasmania's award winning cool climate wines before returning to Launceston.
